The Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and Gambhir Singh Chauhan, DIG and principal, Mountaineering and Skiing Institute, ITBP, Auli had a detailed discussion on the issue of land allocation for opening Adventure Sports Institute by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) near Tehri Lake.
The discussion was held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Saturday. Both hoped that the opening of the institute would further boost tourism in the State and provide jobs to the youth. While assuring ITBP of all possible cooperation in the latter’s proposed venture, CM spoke to the District Magistrate Tehri and instructed him to take the necessary steps to help the institute come up at the earliest.
Chauhan said that ITBP has a very close relationship with Uttarakhand and ITBP has made a special place for itself in the realm of adventure sports.
He further said that Mountaineering and Skiing Institute, ITBP, Auli, Joshimath has been giving training to the security agencies and the police in adventure sports like mountaineering, skiing, rafting and rock climbing.
Chauhan said that with the opening of Adventure Sports Institute near Tehri Lake, tourism would not just get a fillip but the locals would also get more employment opportunities. “Besides, the local administration would receive assistance from the institute in its rescue operations during the time of natural disasters.
Another positive result of the establishment of the institute is that it would encourage the youngsters living in the area to join ITBP. They would also be inspired to participate in the adventure sports activities,” he said.
Apparently enthused by the proposal, the CM called up the DM Tehri and asked him to take all the required steps to take things forward.
He also assured Chauhan in course of the meeting that ITBP would receive all possible support from the State Government as regards the proposed venture.
