CM fiat to curb road accidents in State

Saturday, 17 November 2018 | PNS | Ranchi

Chief Minister Raghubar Das today called for taking important steps to stop road accidents. Holding a meeting of the State Road Safety Council here on Friday he said that human life is very precious.

“A family breaks down after death in an accident. Follow the rules strictly to prevent the accident.

In places where there are more accidents, those places should be alerted by a few kilometers already through signage etc. Monitor the CCTV and stop those who break the rules to stop faster speeds,” he said.

The CM said that maximum speed limit of heavy vehicles should not exceed 70 km per hour on highway and 40 km per hour in residential areas.

“Similarly, for two-wheelers, this limit should not be more than 60 km per hour and 40 km per hour. To alert people to this, place hoardings related to speed in place. Most of the deaths are of two-wheelers. Strictly apply wearing helmets to prevent this. Make people aware too.

Take special care on the schools of children who go to school on two-wheelers. Beware people from overtaking. Overtaking can save 2-4 minutes but it puts precious life in jeopardy,” he said.

The CM asked to increase the number of ambulances on the highway. He instructed the officials to connect ambulances to 108 so that they can reach the accident site in the least possible time.

“Many lives can be saved on time for treatment. He said that to spread awareness among the people, run the campaign under the name of Run for Safety. Create a weekly programme. Play awareness campaign through social media too. Apply highway petrol vehicles to check seat belts, speed of vehicles etc,” he said.

It was informed in the meeting that 143 black spots have been identified in Jharkhand.

Special work is being done at these places. The result of this is that in the third quarter of this year, accidents and mortality decreased. A special campaign has also been started for drunken driving. Checking for helmets and seat belts is strictly being done.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary Sudhir Tripathi, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sunil Kumar Barnawal, Urban Development Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh, Road Construction Secretary KK Soan, Transport Secretary Pravin Toppo, Member Lalit Ojha, Ram Bangar among others.
