Wednesday, 17 October 2018 | PNS | Jamshedpur

Chief Minister Raghubar Das inaugurated a sewing training centre under the aegis of the Jharkhand Khadi Gramodyog Board (JKGB) at Birsanagar Zone No. 2 on Tuesday. The training centre is designed to help create self-employment opportunities for women in the district. Das said that his Government is committed to reach out to the poor and the farmers in every situation. He urged people to take benefit of various schemes related to public interest. The Government's goal is to help the villages prosper through better employment opportunities.

The Chief Minister informed that the Government wants to empower women. The Government has decided to set up Poultry Federation Society to promote production of eggs so that they can be supplied to different Government schools. On the occasion, Jamshedpur MP Bidhyut Baran Mahto said that the state is progressing fast under the leadership of Chief Minister Raghubar Das. The government is working to connect women with employment. Several schemes are being taken in irrigation, education, health and other sectors.

''The centre is well equipped with facilities to provide training in garment stitching. This will make the participants skilled and increase their employability," said vice-president of the khadi board Kulwant Singh Bunty. He said that in the beginning the centre will train 25 women. So far, the state khadi board has trained 300 women in various districts including Hazaribagh, Koderma, Deoghar and Ranchi. Two more centres in Bokaro and Lohardaga are expected to start within a couple of months.

The khadi board in Jamshedpur has so far trained two batches in 2010-11 and 2011-12. After completing their training the women can work with Jharkhand State Khadi and Village Industries or can start their own business. The women will be taught to make shirts, kurtas, churidars, salwar kameez and also learn to design unique cuts. Trainees can also apply for sewing machines at a 75 per cent subsidy from the khadi board.

The board has been imparting skill development training and organising programmes to promote entrepreneurship including women entrepreneurs. It conducts specialized training programmes related to Khadi and Village Industries(KVI), management training and Entrepreneurship Awareness Programmes (EAPs). The duration of the training is flexible and varies from 1 week to 15 month, depending upon the trade, purpose and level of training such as managerial, supervisory or artisan oriented, entrepreneur oriented, skill up-gradation, etc.
