Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat released the report of the Rural Development and Migration Commission (RDMC) containing analysis and recommendations pertaining to eco tourism in Uttarakhand.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that environment is the basis of eco-tourism. Conserving the environment and maintaining ecological balance should be a top priority.
The State Government is undertaking efforts to enhance employment opportunities and mitigate migration while also conserving nature, added the Chief Minister.
The report prepared by RDMC contains and analysis of eco-tourism activities in the State and recommendations for enhancing the benefits from such activities.
The report dwells on generating livelihood opportunities through eco tourism and mitigating migration from the mountainous regions of the State. The Chief Minister and RDMC vice chairman Sharad Singh Negi also discussed the subjects of eco tourism policy and eco tourism master plan for the State.
The report submitted by the commission also recommends that at eco tourism destinations, work should also be undertaken on water conservation, rainwater harvesting, renewable sources of energy, strengthening telecommunication facility, waste management, toilet facility, involvement of the local community in eco tourism and efficient traffic management.
Rawat said that the goddess Sita temple at Sitonsyu in Pauri district will be developed. In a near future, a 4-5 kilometre procession will also be organised here.
The Chief Minister and senior officers of the administration among others will also participate in this procession. The RDMC member secretary RS Pokhariya was also present on the occasion.
