CM reviews Chhath prep, advises on cleanliness

Friday, 09 November 2018 | PNS | Jamshedpur

Chief minister Raghubhar Das today reviewed Chhath preparations at the Sun Temple on Thursday.

The Surya Mandir that comprises of two artificial reservoirs has been organising Chhath Puja for the last 17 years. It attracts about 30,000 Chhath devotees, also known as vratis.

Das, who is also the chief patron of Sidhgora based Surya Mandir Committee, gave insturctions on cleanliness and safety.

Like every year, the Surya Mandir Committee will organise a mega musical concert in the evening of November 13.

Well known singer Suresh Wadekar will perform at the Surya Mandir premises this year.

In Jamshedpur there are 20 major ghats where Chhath devotees offer arghya to the Sun God- once in the evening and once at dawn.

Chhath will be celebrated between Nov 11 and Nov 14 starting with Nahay Khay, the ritual of purification on the first day.

In the light of devotees traditionally offering prayers to the Sun god dipping into the river the administration has resolved to identify safe places (Chhat ghats) for offering prayers at the two rivers.

Besides, the administration has decided to depute divers and life jackets in adequate strength at Chhat ghats.

Meanwhile, several social and cultural organisations of the city have decided to set up canopies near ghats to supply essential commodities to the devotees.

Administration is barricading the danger zones and also putting up sign boards to caution the revelers visiting the riverbanks.

“This year the situation is just opposite so we are making adequate arrangements to make the festival an incident free celebration,” said a district administration official.

In addition to this, several of the non government agencies are carrying out cleaning drive at the riverbanks to make the place clean for the devotees.
