Rapid industrialisation and urbanisation, developed communication system and easy availability of internet and computer facility are the main reasons behind increase in crimes in the State.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik informed this in the State Assembly in response to a question of Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipti on Monday. According to information furnished by the Chief Minister, while 77,596 criminal offences had been registered by September-end 2017, the number of registered offences increased to 79,998 by September-end 2018.
However, he said the allegation of incidences of bank dacoity and snatching getting increased in the State is not true. To check these crimes, police patrolling system, use of CCTV cameras, alarm system and linking between local police stations and banks and regular discussion between police and banks’ higher officers on security issues have been expedited, he said.
