The doctors of neurosurgery department of All India Institute Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh have claimed to have performed a complex spinal surgery on a 11-year-old girl. The neurosurgeon AIIMS, Dr Nishant Goyal said that the Rudrapur resident Pankhuri was suffering from cerebral palsy due to which she was not able to walk. In this disease, the development of brain is hampered due to less oxygen supply to the brain at the time of birth.
He said that under the influence of the disease, Pankhuri had developed stiffness in leg muscles. On investigation, the doctors decided to cut the nerves in spinal cord responsible for stiffness of muscle. The complex operation was successfully accomplished by the team of neurosurgeons of the institute.
The AIIMS director professor Ravi Kant said that use of neuro monitoring apparatus had been made for the operation. He congratulated the team of doctors on the successful conduct of the operation.
