Cong celebrates victory in 3 States

Wednesday, 12 December 2018 | PNS | Dehradun

After being kept on the edge of the seat suspense for hours with the trends from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan showing neck and neck fight, the State Congress headquarters here erupted into celebration late in the afternoon after it turned nearly clear that the party was set to form Government in these States as well.

A large number of party leaders and supporters started to gather at the State party office on Rajpur Road when the initial trends showed that the party was forging ahead in three important saffronite-ruled States.

As some overenthusiastic workers brought sweets and set on the premature triumphalism the old timers advised them to wait till the final picture emerged.

After sometime, it became clear that Congress was sweeping Chhattisgarh. However, the trends from MP and Rajasthan seemed to signal a cliff hanger with BJP and Congress going neck and neck. The electoral seesaw with the parties experiencing highs and lows at regular intervals forced the Congress workers to hold the celebration.

Amid the prevailing suspense, the State Congress president Pritam Singh arrived at the State office. He too cautioned the party workers against embarking on premature celebration. At around 4 pm, when it became clear that Congress was set to wrest MP and Rajasthan from the saffronites, the Congress workers finally erupted in celebrations.

They applied colours on one another’s faces and distributed sweets. They busted firecrackers too to celebrate the long-awaited electoral victory.  Some of them were heard saying that they cherished the victory as it had come after a long time. “There is no going back now. The rejuvenated Congress under the dynamic leadership of Rahul Gandhi is all set to oust the BJP from power during the 2019 hustings,” said a veteran Congress activist triumphantly.
