Cong delegation meets State Election Commissioner

Friday, 16 November 2018 | PNS | Dehradun

A delegation of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) met the State Election Commissioner and demanded that cases against Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik and Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi should be registered for violating the model code of conduct enforced in the State for elections to urban local bodies.

The Congress delegation led by chairman of its disciplinary committee, Pramod Kumar Singh met the state election commissioner ( SEC), Chandra Shekhar Bhat and submitted a memorandum to him. The Congress leaders said that in a case of open violation of model code of conduct, the Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi is distributing cash to the voters to influence them. A video of the BJP MLA distributing money to the women on the occasion of Chhath has gone viral on social media. Similarly the congress delegation pointed out that the senior cabinet minister and government spokesperson Madan Kaushik is trying to mislead people by making false claims that the High Court ( HC) has ordered a stay on encroachment done on Nazul land. The congress leaders said that the fact is that the state government has filed no petition in the HC on the issue and the statement of the cabinet minister on the issue is mischievous and aimed at influencing electorate in the ULB elections.

The congress leaders also handed over CDs as evidences against Ganesh Joshi and Madan Kaushik to the state election commissioner. The delegation also reminded the SEC that it had submitted a complaint against CM Trivendra Singh Rawat for making an announcement on the occasion of State Foundation Day (November 9) that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate Haridwar- Dehradun cooking gas pipeline on November 22 which is a clear case of violation of model code of conduct enforced in the state. The congress leaders said that it is unfortunate that the SEC has taken no cognizance on its complaint against CM which puts up a question mark over its impartiality.  Congress leaders demanded that the SCE should register cases of violation of model code of conduct against CM Rawat, Minister Madan Kaushik and Ganesh Joshi.

Apart from Singh the delegation consisted of PCC Member Rajesh Chamoli, chairman of minorities cell Tahir Ali, state spokesperson Garima Dassauni, state secretary Shanti Rawat and Pranita Badoni.
