Congress legislators on Wednesday chose a unique way to protest the steep petroleum price hike, as several of them arrived in bullock carts at the Chhattisgarh State Assembly. The protest was a symbolic display on how petrol and diesel prices have reached outside the budget of the common citizens.
A decision to use bullock carts instead of cars was taken after a meeting of Congress Legislative Party (CLP) was held on Tuesday afternoon under the leadership of the Leader of Opposition, TS Singhdeo.
Later, the Congress legislators created chaos in the House over them being stopped by police on way to the Chhattisgarh Assembly at several points.
They were also stopped for a while at the entrance and the Congress legislators termed it a ‘breach of privilege’.
The agitation by the Congress legislators was staged just a couple of days after Congress led opposition parties organised a shutdown to protest the rising fuel prices and the softening of the rupee. As many as 21 opposition parties, both regional and national, extended their support to the Bharat Bandh.
