Cong members create ruckus over paddy bonus distribution

Thursday, 13 September 2018 | Staff Reporter | Raipur

Terming the move to distribute bonus on paddy procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) a ‘lolly-pop’ before polls, Congress members blamed the State Government of cheating the farmers of the State on the issue in the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Wednesday.

During discussions on supplementary budget, some heated exchange of words were witnessed over the issue of distribution of bonus on paddy.

Congress MLA Mohan Markam said when the Government had promised earlier of giving Rs 2100 MSP and Rs 300 bonus on it, why not it provided it earlier. It is providing it now in a bid to get political mileage in the upcoming elections, he said.

Replying to the member,   BJP legislator Shivratan Sharma said the Congress party doesn’t want that the Government should distribute bonus to farmers. Even being in power for decades they had done nothing in the interest of farmers, he alleged.

The Congress is sitting in the Opposition since past 15 years and if they didn’t change their attitude they will be there for the next 15 years too, he said.

“Our Government is regularly distributing bonus to farmers and earlier we have given Rs 150, Rs 180 and Rs 250 respectively and now we are providing them Rs 300 bonus as promised”, he said. The people of the State are aware enough and they will give a befitting reply to the Congress for their opposition of bonus during the upcoming elections, he added.
