Congress workers held a demonstration to protest cane charge on party colleagues in Bilaspur yesterday at the Dharna Site near Budha Talab in Raipur on Wednesday.
The party workers in large numbers on Wednesday morning gathered at Dharna Site near Budha Talab burnt effigies and had scuffle with policemen who tried to stop the effigy burning programme.
The activists were raising slogans against the state government and were of the view that they will not tolerate brutality as was seen in Bilaspur.
“Policemen had intentionally beaten the Congress workers in Bilaspur, who were peacefully demonstrating against the Urban Administration Minister, they said.
“Actually the cane charge is a reaction of the fear the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has while sensing defeat in the upcoming Assembly polls”, the Congress leaders said.
