Congress warns stir if health service does not improve in 10 days

Sunday, 23 September 2018 | PNS | Dehradun

Alleging that the health services in the State have completely crumbled down, the State Congress has warned that it would launch a State –wide full-blown agitation if the health services do not improve in the next ten days.

On Saturday, the Congress activists staged a protest at the office of the director general (DG) of State health services and articulated anger over the recent death of a mother and her new born in the female hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC). Earlier, in the day, a large number of party workers led by the state party vice president Surya Kant Dhasmana Assembled  outside the DG office and staged a stir. Speaking on the occasion, Dhasmana said that the incidents of death of a poor woman and her newborn baby and the death of a baby in the mother’s womb in the biggest female hospital of the State are very unfortunate. “It is clear that negligence led to the death. One can easily understand the horrible state of the health service in the remote areas when things are so bad in the State capital,” he said.

The Congress leader further said that 61 ambulances are rusting away in their long wait for refurbishments. “The Government is apathetic,” he said. He warned that his party would be forced to launch a State –wide, vigorous agitation if the conditions do not improve in the next ten days.

The president of Mahanagar party unit, Lal Chand Sharma said that the Doon Hospital should be separated from the medical college and its old status as the district hospital should be restored immediately.

A  Congress delegation later submitted a memorandum to the additional director Suman Arya, demanding prompt corrective steps in the interest of the people of the state.
