A man was arrested for allegedly exchanging more than hundred ATM cards by masquerading as bank employees and collecting their bank details, said Cyber Inspector Adhikant Mahto.
The accused was identified as Jajmul Ansari (29), son of Azmul Ansari, belonging to village Mahtoni in Jainagar area in Koderma,Mahto said.
Two persons were earlier arrested with 100 ATMs arrested namely Chotu Rai and Bunty Rai from Odisha, the two later disclosed the details of their other associates in Koderma and active in Giridih, from where these fake calls used and exchange ATM to be made, the officer said.
The accused revealed that they used to make calls from Jharkhand to gullible people and collect their debit and credit card information by masquerading as bank employees on the pretext of renewing cards, the officer said.
Thereafter, he used to load the duped money in their digital wallets, which were opened by them on their phones using SIM cards registered on fake IDs. Then they used to transfer this money into the online wallets of their associates who were residing at different places of the country, he said.
According to reports the accused based in Rajdhanwar cheated people at Axis Bank, Gandhinagar Chowk, Rajdhanwar Branch, while other customers who were watching his activities and exchanging ATM cards. Subsequently, the accused, Jajmul Ansari, was picked up red-handed by some other customer from premises and handed over to Cyber cell. Later police recovered 71 ATMs and two mobiles from his possession, started its investigation, he added.
