A 21-year-old dancer who turned to snatching in order to satisfy his addiction to liquor and cigarettes and to splurge on his three girlfriends, was arrested during patrolling by Southeast district’s Govindpuri police on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The accused, identified as Rohan Gill (21), was caught red-handed when he was fleeing after snatching money from an auto driver. The incident occurred midnight when the auto driver was waiting for passengers at Govindpuri Chowk, Ravi Dass Marg and counting his money.
“Meanwhile, Rohan came to him and asked for a bidi.Then, he snatched his purse and ran away. The complainant, then, raised an alarm and nearby patrolling 'Raftar' motorcycle squad arrested the accused," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal stated.
"During sustained interrogation, Rohan disclosed that he joined S.M Dance Academy in Kalkaji and completed a one year professional Dance Training Course. After this, he joined a dance troupe and soon became the lead performer of his troupe. He started performing in events and parties," said the DCP.
"While performing in events, he started consuming liquor and cigarettes in parties and events. Rohan used to stay outside his house during nights and disclosed that he has three girlfriends.
In order to splurge on his girlfriends and to get easy money for his expenses, he started commiting petty thefts and snatching in the area," he said.
Two cases of snatching and ten cases of theft were solved with his arrest. He was earlier arrested in December 2017 by Amar Colony police station, March and April 2018 by Okhla Industrial Area and Kalkaji police stations," DCP added.
