Police foiled an attempt of the Federation of Shiksha Mitras to march towards the State Secretariat on Monday. Earlier, under the banner of federation, a large number of Shiksha Mitras assembled at the protest site near Parade Ground on the day and staged demonstration. Addressing the protestors, the president of the federation, Khajan Singh Chauhan said that more than 200 Shiksha Mitras have been waiting for the past one year to be absorbed in the cadre of primary teachers. “But no action has yet been taken on it by the indifferent administration,” he said.
He further said that 1207 Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) qualified Shiksha Mitras had been appointed by the Government last year as primary teachers and similarly 1500 non-TET Shiksha Mitras had been absorbed in the primary teacher cadre.
Chauhan said that remaining 200 Shiksha Mitras were now being forced to agitate as no action has been initiated to regularise them. He said that the agitation would be intensified further if their demands continued to be ignored.
The protestors later headed to the Secretariat but the police, deployed in adequate number, stopped them en route.
A minor scuffle between police and protestors occurred following which some Shiksha Mitras were arrested.
