Dengue cases dip in first week of Dec

Dengue cases recorded a slight dip in the first week of December as only 204 cases of the vector borne diseases were reported in the national Capital last week, however, the cases are still more in number than that of the last year, suggested the weekly report released by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday.

According to the report, while 75 cases belonged to Delhi, 105 were found to be acquired from other states on investigation. In 24 cases, the address of the patients was not revealed by the hospitals.

"Last year, in the month of December, only 81 cases of dengue were recorded in Delhi, but this year, talking about the cases that belong to Delhi, the number has already crossed 75. There are going to be more cases in the coming weeks," said a senior official.

With this, the total number of cases recorded this year in nation's capital has risen to 6,969 including 3,485 acquired from the other states and 752 untraced after investigation. The cases include four deaths of which two were reported in September and another two were reported in October.

The decline was also seen in malaria and chikungunya cases. Only two case of Malaria including one acquired from other states and four cases of chikungunya including one untraced were recorded in Delhi last week, stated the weekly report.

Nevertheless, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has sprayed around 27, 57,900 houses this year already. Out of the total number of houses sprayed, 10, 22,050 were sprayed North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC), 12, 87,773 houses were sprayed by SDMC and 4, 48,077 houses were sprayed by East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), suggested the report.

The report further suggested that during the corporation's visits to the houses, around 2, 32,949 houses were found to be positive for mosquito breeding. "Around 73441 houses were found positive in north Delhi, 96285 in south Delhi and 63223 houses were found positive in east Delhi," said a senior official.

Following this, legal notices to around 1, 86,022 houses including 56,114 in north, 68,962 in south and 60,946 in east Delhi.

Similarly, prosecutions have been launched in 25,956 cases of violation. While 6782 were launched in by NMC, around 8,608 were launched by EDMC. With action taken in 10,566 cases, the highest number of prosecutions was launched by SDMC.
