Islamic seminary of Darul Uloom Deoband has demanded an apology from Bharatiya Janata Party MLC Bukkal Nawab for claiming Lord Hanuman to be a Muslim.
Head of on-line fatwa department of the seminary, Mufti Arshad Ahmed Farooqui, said, “Only responsible persons should speak on religious issues and they should first ascertain facts before making statements. Objective research and investigation are prerequisites for making such statements.”
The Mufti said that no Islamic scripture mentions about Hanuman and Bukkal Nawab should not have made a statement which was entirely without any basis.
He said that politicians often indulged in gimmicks for attracting media focus and publicity.
“Bukkal Nawab should tender apology to both Hindus and Muslims for making this statement,” the Mufti demanded.
The controversy over the caste of Lord Hanuman was triggered by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath when he termed Bajrangbali a ‘Dalit’ during a poll rally at Alwar in Rajasthan.
