DIAL wins 28th spot globally for cargo tonnage handling

With One Million Metric Tons cargo in a year, GMR group led Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) attained 28 th position globally.  The cargo tonnage handled by Delhi airport is 29 per cent of India’s total Air Cargo.

GMR also handled highest ever monthly air cargo tonnage of 1,00,091 MT in a single month — October 2018. 

The significant growth in Civil Aviation and air connectivity over the years have also played a prominent role in facilitating cargo movements throughout the world.

IGIA connects to 75 International and 67 Domestic destinations, served by around 64 Air Carriers and 16 Freighter airlines.

 Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, Chief Executive Officer, DIAL, said, “Delhi Airport has been recognized as India’s Air Cargo Gateway for its handling capacity, efficient processes and service standards.

 DIAL is also recognized as the ‘Authorized Economic Operator Certified Airport’ by Central Board of Excise & Customs’, Ministry of

Finance, GoI, for making a significant impact amongst its stakeholders in promoting Delhi Airport as Cargo Hub Airport for the region and the world.

 As per a report by ASSOCHAM, Air cargo contributes about 20 percent of Airlines revenue and involves a wide variety of service providers and employs nearly 70,000 persons in the country. Delhi Airport contributes 17.89 percent to the GSDP (Gross State Domestic Product), according to National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER).
