Moved by the horrific tragedy on Dusshera at Amritsar, the medicos have chipped in to offer their services for the treatment of tragedy victims for free.
Internationally renowned cardio-vascular surgeon Dr Harinder Singh Bedi has offered free surgeries of victims sustaining various injuries including vascular trauma. In the same way, Jalandhar’s Asian Hospital’s Dr SK Chauhan has also offered to conduct “free of cost” plastic surgeries.
Making the offer, Ludhiana-based Dr Bedi said that vascular trauma means damage to any of the blood vessels mostly of the arm or leg. The treatment in selected cases entails a meticulous skilled surgery which can restore blood supply and save the limb.
Dr Bedi is one of the senior most members of the Vascular Society of India (VSI) and is the founder patron of the Association of North Zone Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgeons (ANZCTVS).
He explained that there are a limited number of trained vascular surgeons in India. In case required, he offered the services of his full super-speciality team to the State Government to treat such cases without any surgical charge.
Dr Bedi has been in active practice in Punjab for 20 years and he feels that this is the least that he can do for the people of our region.
Dr Chauhan, in a message on the whatsapp, has offered, “If any patient of rail accident needs plastic surgery in Amritsar, I will come and do free of cost. Please circulate it in your circle.”
