EC steps to ensure free and fair polls

Constructive action is being taken by the Election Commission to hold comprehensive, trouble-free, creditable and ethical elections in the State.

Since the model conduct has come into effect in the State, action is being taken on the instructions of the Election Commission to prevent criminal activities and use of illegal money to ensure free and fair election under the prohibitory measures. Under the NDPS Act, a major action is being taken in Mandsaur district to seize movable and immovable property of the convicts and accused of the criminal activities.

Under the SAFEMA Act, a case to seize immovable property worth Rs 24.95 crore and movable property costing Rs 73.80 lakh of seven smugglers has been sent to the SAFEMA Court, out of this immovable property worth Rs 12.30 crore and movable property costing Rs 12.30 lakh has been seized and hearing is underway in connection to the remaining cases.

Besides, smack worth Rs 4 crore has been seized in Mandsaur during the checking. A spurious liquor factory has been raided and 3 thousand litre spirit, 30,000 bottles, 6,000 holograms, 10,000 wrappers and potash etc. have been seized, which could be used to manufacture 15 to 20 crate spurious liquor.       

Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer VL Kanta Rao has informed that since the model of conduct has come into effect, 1.13 firearms have been deposited in the police stations and 601 illegal firearms have been confiscated from October 6 to 13, 2018 to maintain law and order in the state. A total of 8,714 non-bailable warrants have been issued and prohibitory action has been taken against 18,336 people.

Under the Property defacement, 5,12,091 cases have been registered. Out of this, 4,05,074 cases of government property defacement and 1,07,017 cases of private property defacement have been registered. 

Action has been taken on total 4,81,505 registered cases including 3,89,903 cases of government property defacement and 91,602 cases of private property defacement. Besides, 1,770 cases of misuse of vehicles have been registered.
