The East Coast Railway (ECoR) received as many as 33 Hand Held Terminals (HHT) of which 21 HHT for Bhubaneswar base, i.e, for Rajdhani and 12 HHT for Puri base, i.e, for Shatabdi trains.
As trial has been done earlier in the ECoR region, the HHT are expected to be introduced before the New Year as part of the national transporter's effort to introduce digital initiatives.
The HHT, with the size of iPad, would be loaded with passenger reservation chart and is connected with Passenger Reservation System through GPRS. This would update the details of booking of tickets through online method at every station where the train stops.
Passengers with RAC or waiting list ticket can check with the Travelling Ticket Examiner’s (TTE) HHT about the availability of vacant berths which would also bring transparency and avoid corruption in allotting berths for RAC or waiting list passengers on running trains.
