Shocked by the recent episode of a Kashmiri student, enrolled in an engineering college in Dehradun, joining the ranks of a terror outfit, the deputy inspector general (DIG) Garhwal range Ajay Rautela has directed the police officers to be vigilant on the students of other states and ensure that their verifications are rightly done.
Rautela gave these orders while undertaking a meeting of the in-charges of intelligence units of all the districts under the Garhwal range and social media monitoring teams in Dehradun on Saturday.
The DIG said that a large number of people from other states, including students, skilled and unskilled workers, roadside vendors and construction workers, are coming to the state. He said that verification of all of them should be done properly.
The DIG added that names, addresses, identity proofs, mobile numbers and photographs of the students and other people should be verified. Rautela said that surveillance on the suspected people and groups active on social media platforms should be done and action should be taken against those involved in spreading hatred in the society and trying to create communal tension. “No slackness on the matter would be tolerated,” he said.
He said that messages of good works done by the police should be spread on the social media. He added that senior officers should ask those under them to refrain from forwarding anything on social media without going through it properly.
He also directed the intelligence units to remain alert and send regular inputs to his office.
