Event in memory of musicologist held

The two classical gharanas  - ‘Benaras and Jaipur’  - amazed the Bhopalites in a delightful musical evening. To observe the death anniversary of great musicologist Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande, a cultural event was organised at Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum on Wednesday.

Two renowned classical artists in the field of music and dance enthralled the audience with their performance. Viraj Amar, a talented artiste performed the classical vocal and Indraani Mukherjee performed scintillating Kathak on the occasion. It is to be noted that the event is organised by Directorate of Culture, Madhya Pradesh in the memory of Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande.  Viraj Amar is the disciple of Pandit Rajan-Sajan Mishra and Indiraani Mukherjee is the disciple of Uma Dogra.

Both the artists showcased their firing talent on stage leaving the Bhopalites totally mesmerized.

The evening began with the performance by Viraj. Viraj hails from Ahmadabad. She began with Raga Nand. In Raga Nand, she presented Bada Khayal in Teen Taal ‘Dhundho Vare Saiyyan’. After this she performed Tanmay Hokar ‘Bhavrao ji’. Her clear voice and melodious rhythms were commendable.

She was successful in leaving his influence as an accomplished and master artist in all the preparations, variety and expansion of the raga, the deeper affection and the preparation. Ustad Zameer Khan accompanied her on harmonium and Sapna Anjaria on  table and Ashlesha on Tanpura.

After this, a splendid performance of Kathak by Indraani spellbound all. Belong to Jaipur Gharana, Indraani left no stone unturned to impress the audience with her performance.

She started off the dance with Ganesh Vandana. After that, she demonstrated pure kathak in fifteen quantities. While presenting the dance, she impressed audience with Bhavnika Bhangika, Chakkra and Layaikari. While presenting Ashthpadi, the lyrical form she brilliantly used her imagination and the audience watched her with rapt attention.

Manoj Desai accompanied her on vocal, Vinayak Netke on table and the music composer, Sandeep Mishra was on Sarangi. The presentation was choreographed by her teacher Uma Dogra.
