Regional Museum of Natural History, Bhopal inaugurated temporary exhibition on ‘Eutherian Mammals to Man’ in collaboration with Medico Engineering Components, Nagpur on Wednesday. Prof RJ Rao, Vice Chancellor, Barkatuallah University, Bhopal was the Chief Guest of the programme to inaugurate the temporary exhibition.
The exhibition describes in great detail the journey of our ancestors from Eutherian (Placental) mammals like wombats, rats and sea cows to euprimates (now extinct) that were the ancestors to modern primates to the linkage (or transitional) fossils that link the old world monkeys to the new world monkeys and old world monkeys to apes; the first linkages between modern existent species of apes and our ancestors is also shown.
The exhibition also focuses on the evolution of various tools that our ancestors found vital to survive and finally the exhibition ends with the evolution tree (branches) of modern man.
During the inauguration In-charge and Scientist-B of the museum Manoj Kumar Sharma welcomed the Chief Guest Prof RJ Rao. During the inauguration of temporary exhibition RN Ravidas, Director and Vikas Kumar Suman, Sr. Geologist from Geological Survey of India, Bhopal; Scientist-C Arjun Prasad Tiwari from RGRMNH, Sawaimadhopur; Vipin Vyas, Associate Professor from Barkatullah University; Jagdish Chandra, Rtd IFS; Coordinator of the temporary exhibitions and Scientist-B Beenish Rafat; Scientist-B Manik Lal Gupta; Anil Kumar Shrivastava and Himanshu Shrivastava from Medico Engineering Components, Nagpur; students from Sarojni Naidu Girls PG College, Aranya, Parvarish, staff members, media personals and general public were present.
Scientist-B of the museum Beenish Rafat was the coordinator of the temporary exhibition.
