A man impersonating as a Senior Civil Judge of Gurugram, who had duped many unsuspecting people over lakhs of rupees in Gurugram, was arrested by police on Sunday from Gurugram’s Sector 12 after a complaint was filed.
The accused identified as Kedarnath Sagar Sharma (29) was living in a rented accommodation at Heritage Max Society located at Sector-102 in Gurugram for six months. He was produced before the concerned court that sent him to seven days police remand.
According to police, Sharma originally hails from Hyderabad and was duping people for over six months in the name of helping them to get cheap flats, jobs and school admissions at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Gurugram.
“The accused used to tell people that he was posted in Gurugram on deputation as Senior Civil Judge and promised to get them Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category flats and jobs in public and Government sectors and used to take Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per person. He mainly targeted women as of now, he has duped nearly 40 people the figure of victims could be much higher,” said Shamsher Singh, ACP (Crime).
A police team from Sector-14 Police Station had arrested the accused after a victim Gagan Batra a resident of Sector-51 in Gurugram filed a complaint against him. Batra runs a car accessories shop at Sector-14 area and through this, he came in touch with the fake judge.
“Batra alleged in his complaint that Sharma told him that he can help to get EWS flats located at sector-12 on his name and demand Rs 4 lakh in which he had paid Rs 2 lakh as an advance to him but later he did not receive a flat and neither get his payment from the accused and reported the matter to the police. On the basis of this complaint the probe team had nabbed him,” Singh said.
“The accused owns a luxury BMW with a nameplate of a Senior Civil Judge. The academic qualification of the accused was B-tech from Osmania University in Hyderabad. He has done several jobs between 2012 to 2016 and had run a restaurant in Goa but was failed to get success,” an investigation officer, said.
The accused also duped a woman of several lakhs and gave her an assurance of her brother’s job in Navy and used to live with her. Besides, he also has some other women friends.
The officer added “We are scanning the role of the woman in the fraud and whether she was aware of Sharma’s ‘business,” the officer added.
“The accused has also duped dozens of parents and took Rs 40 to Rs 50 thousand per admission at Kendriya Vidyalaya School.
He used to tell people in the city that he is posted in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as an IAS officer and duped people to promised them to get jobs in Group-D at the institution,” the ACP, said.
The police have recovered fake Identity card of Senior Civil Judge, IAS officers and Educational Institutions and several types of fake stamps for his possession. He had stayed at the Public Works Department (PWD) rest house posing as a Judge for several months.
“A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against him at Sector-14 police station. Further probe in the matter is underway,” said Subhash Boken, PRO of Gurugram police.
