The first of its kind e-toilet was inaugurated at Ranchi Railway Station on Saturday, by Lok Sabha MP from Ranchi, Ram Tahal Choudhary in the presence of DRM VK Gupta, Sr DOM Neeraj Kumar and others.
Launched as a pilot project, the e-toilet is a fully automated toilet and can be used by the passengers by inserting a Rs. 5 coin in the coin slot.
Suhar Lohakare, senior PRO, South Eastern Railways, Ranchi division said, “This is a self cleaning toilet based on water conservation technology. Once a person puts the coin in the slot, the sensory lights are switched on and the toilet can be used.”
To conserve water, the toilet if used for three minutes, would automatically be flushed with 1.5 lts of water and if used more than three minutes, the water released for flushing would be 4.5 lts.
“The technology of auto flush and floor washing ensures cleanliness in the toilet and there is no need of any manual maintenance,” Lohakare said.
The installation cost of one unit of toilet is Rs. 7 lakh and it comes with a one year warrantee and two years guarantee.
