Focus on women in EPIC list raises gender ratio

Special attention was paid on including women in the EPIC list reviewed which helped to increase the gender ratio from 905 to 917, said Chief Electoral Officer of Madhya Pradesh VL Kanta Rao while addressing media at media briefing on Monday.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) today said that the Second Summary Revision of the photo electoral roll for Madhya Pradesh will be published on September 27.

While talking to media persons here on Monday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer VL Kantha Rao told, “Subsequent to the publication of draft electoral roll on July 31, a total of 31,75,048 applications had been received till the last date for filing claims and objections. Of them, 16,72,805 applications pertained to addition of names, 7,43,489 to removal of names and 6,52,086 to transfer of names in the same assembly segment.”

He further said that the gender ratio showed improvement increasing from 905 to 917 per thousand of males during the summary revision. Likewise, the number of service voters increased from 57,106 to 59,826.

To a query over a complaint by the Congress over the misuse of government machinery by the BJP for the Karyakarta Mahakumbh, Rao said that response has been sought from the General Administration Department. He said that appropriate action would be taken if anyone is found guilty.

The gender ratio is likely to increase till the publication of the final list which is scheduled on September 27, 2018.

Replying to query on verified Whatapp account of Election Commission Rao replied it has been applied and within 10-15 days it would be verified.

Social network accounts of Election Commission would be handled by a government based agency from Delhi. After the first published EPIC list five applications of Non- Resident Indians have been received.
