Gangotri shrine closed to public for winter

The portals of the Gangotri shrine were ceremoniously closed to the public on Thursday for the winter. This marks the start of the closure of Char Dham shrines in Uttarakhand.

The Gangotri shrine was closed amidst religious chanting at 12:30 PM on Thursday. The procession of the goddess also departed from this shrine to her winter abode in Mukhba village. The procession was accompanied by devotees, traditional drums and an army band. It should be mentioned here that the portals of Kedarnath and Yamunotri shrines are slated to be closed to the public for the winters on Friday. Badrinath shrine will be closed to the public on November 20.
