GRP, RPF to share security info in WhatsApp

Thursday, 06 December 2018 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

To ensure safety for passengers and check illegal transportation of narcotics and valuable metals, the State Level Security Committee for Railways on Wednesday decided to create a WhatsApp group involving Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Police Force (RPF) staffs under administration of SRP Rourkela and SRP Cuttack.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held under chairmanship of DGP Dr RP Sharma here. GRP and RPF personnel would share intelligence relating to transportation of narcotic drugs and psychotic substance, unauthorised transportation of live stocks, human trafficking, transportation of valuable metals like gold, silver etc. as well as any crime and law and order situation, if happens. Details of the cases related to ‘Rail Roko’ which are now being registered by the RPF should be shared with the concerned GRPSs.

It was decided to deploy train guards in various crime-prone night plying trains and supply CUG mobiles to them. During bandhs, the GRP, the RPF and the Railway Authority would take joint efforts to diffuse the situation well in advance.

Orientation training would be given to both RPF  and GRP personnel to deal with LWE activities. All the railway station will be provided with sufficient numbers of CCTV/ baggage scanner by Railways within a short period.  It was also decided to take initiative for Inter-State transfer of Zero FIR cases directly to the concerned PS under intimation to the SP/SRP.

It was informed by RPF that in some of the trains like Rajdhani and Satabdi, CCTVs have been installed inside the coaches and other trains would be fitted with CCTV gradually.

Railways and Coastal Security Additional DGP P Acharya, SIB Joint Deputy Director PK Sethy, ECoR RPF-cum-PCSC IG Atul Pathak and senior officers of the RPF and GRP were present.
