Gurugram ASJ’s son succumbs

Wednesday, 24 October 2018 | Parvesh Sharma | GURUGRAM

Ten days after the gunman of Additional Session’s Judge (ASJ) Krishan Kant Sharma, shot at his wife and son on October 13, the judge’s son — Dhruv (17) — died on Tuesday. He was declared brain dead on October 15 and was on life support. His heart, liver and kidney were donated by his father.

Judge Krishan Kant’s wife Ritu (38) had died duringher treatment due to excessive bleeding. The teenager had sustained three bullet injuries — two in his head and one in his neck.

“The teen was on life support since he was admitted to hospital. He died around 4 am on Tuesday. The family of the deceased donated his organs,” the Medical Officer said.

Ritu and Dhruv were shot and injured by the gunman Mahipal Singh (32) at the busy Arcadia market in Sector 49 on October 13 afternoon. The accused was arrested soon after the incident and later sent to judicial custody.

He had worked as a personal security officer (PSO) to various officials for the last four years. He had been working for the judge for the last two years.

Mahipal was remanded to four-day police custody on October 15. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set up to probe the case. Police had sought four days custody to interrogate Mahipal.

Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) Sumit Kuhar and Sulochana Gajraj had then spoken about the entire incident.

According to them, the attack was the result of a “sudden provocation” when Mahipal lost his temper when the judge’s wife Ritu and son Dhruv scolded him for being untraceable after they had finished their shopping at the Arcadia Market in Gurugram’s Sector 49.

“Upset over his absence, Ritu scolded the PSO while Dhruv asked him to hand over the keys of the car. Angry over their behaviour, the guard first started beating Dhruv who was seated on the passenger seat. A few minutes later he shot at him three times,” Kuhar said.

“The accused also beat up the judge’s wife before shooting at her,” the officer had said earlier. Mahipal, whose services were terminated, is currently in Gurugram’s Bhondsi jail.
