As part of reforms in the Jagannath Temple, its administration has decided to set up a Gurukul for the servitors.
Following discussion with Supreme Court-appointed Amicus Curiae Gopal Subramanium, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has agreed to execute a proposal to set up a ‘Sevayat Gurukul’ by reducing the number of servitors for making their children highly educated and learned.
As per the decision, the children of the servitors would be enrolled at the Gurukul, which would offer courses related to Hindu scriptures in the CBSE pattern.
The practical classes in the subjects would be held at the Jagannath Temple to make the students expert in conducting the rituals of deities in a smooth manner. The servitors’ children, who will be studying at the Gurukul, would be provided education free of cost.
Sources knowledgeable about the development said that the temple administration has acquired around 10 acres of land in the Samagara area near Malatipatpur for establishing the Sevayat Gurukul.
The process for introducing the courses is expected from next year.
