The Governor Baby Rani Maurya reviewed the ceremonial parade to mark the 18th anniversary of the State Foundation Day on the Police Line ground here on Friday. The Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat was also present.
Extending her wishes to the people of the State, the Governor said, “On the occasion of completion of 18 years, we have to honestly evaluate and also to set the target for moving forward. Over these years, Uttarakhand has performed well on many parameters of development, but there are still many challenges that need to be addressed.’’
She further said that there is a need to bridge the gap between the plains and the hill areas of the state in terms of socio-economic development. She suggested that the gap can be bridged by providing employment to the women and the youth residing in the mountainous areas of the state. She stressed on the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign be made 100 per cent successful.
In his address, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat paid tributes to those who had sacrificed their lives for the formation of the state.
Lauding the role the state police have been playing, he said, “In the time of disaster or normal circumstances, whenever required, Uttarakhand police have adhered to its duties with utmost discipline.”
He further said that the use of technology now being rampant, the criminals are becoming tech- savvy. “It is thus imperative now to keep them under radar. I have, however, complete confidence in the efficiency of Uttarakhand police,” CM said.
He said that two police stations based in Uttarakhand figuring in the list of top 10 best police stations of the country was a matter the people of the state could justly pride themselves on. “Our police personnel have made a different identity. Our police are disciplined. It is tough when situations warrant them to be so, but it is at the same time a people-friendly force. Their dedication is exemplary,” he said.
On the occasion, the Governor also felicitated the recipients of the ‘President’s Police Medal’ and ‘Police Medal’ in recognition of their distinguished services. The Governor and the CM also released two police magazines on the occasion.
On the occasion, Manoj Kumar Thakur, deputy superintendent of police, Uttarkashi, and Sanjay Kumar, inspector, police station Sitarganj, were awarded for special investigation and for the best –manned police station respectively.
The ceremonial parade was commanded by the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dehradun, Nivedita Kukreti.
After the parade was over, the personnel of different wings of Uttarakhand police presented women pipe band, dog show, anti-terrorist squad demonstration, SDRF demonstration, motor cycling and riding shows. Among others present were the cabinet minister Satpal Maharaj, minister of state Dhan Singh Rawat, Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh and director general of police (DGP) Anil Raturi.
After attending the ceremonial parade, the CM went to the court complex Dehradun where he paid tributes at the ‘Martyrs Memorial’ of the slain statehood activists.
