Gwalior to get city trains soon: Lohani

Plans are afoot to run city trains in Gwalior. This was stated by Ashwani Lohani, the Railway Board Chairman during his visit to Gwalior on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of his visit to the Gwalior Railway Station for inspecting the existing and upcoming facilities for passengers, Lohanigave details about the   developmental activities and added that the Railway Board is considering running City Trains in Gwalior. The Chairman said that the Railway Board is concerned about the problems which plague the smooth traffic movement in the city and will do everything possible to solve them. He said instructions have been given to the railway officials to make a detailed plan to facilitate the running of city trains. He also sought details from the divisional authorities about the alterations that are needed to be made to the narrow gauge to run the city trains.

Giving details of the major face-lifts to the Gwalior Railway Station, the Chairman said that the goods godown, currently situated on platform No 4 will be shifted to the new godown that is being constructed at the Rayru Railway Station. He opined that this will provide the much needed space to add more platforms and tracks. He also said that the Railway Over Bridge at Padav and the escalator on platform number 4 will be operational before the end of December. He added that the ROBs at Shadhabdhipuram, Vivekananda Needam, Race Course Road and Bhadarouli will be completed by March 2019. Earlier the Railway Board Chairman held a meeting with the Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, State Minister Maya Singh and the officials of the District Administration and Jhansi Railway Division to discuss about the proposed city trains and the various developmental and remodeling works in the circulating areas of the railway station. The meeting was also attended by the District Collector, Ashok Varma, Municipal Commissioner, Vinod Sharma, The Jhansi DRM, AK Mishra and Smart City CEO, MahipTejaswi, among others. Speaking to the media persons, Narendra Singh Tomar, the Central Minister said that the developmental and remodeling works of the Gwalior Railway Station will be jointly carried out by the Railways, District Administration, Housing Board and the Gwalior Municipal Corporation.
