Handicap voters to get ‘Ghar se Ghar Tak’ facility

As per the directives issued by the Election Commission of India, ‘Ghar se Ghar Tak’ (Home to Home) facility will be provided to handicapped voters to cast their votes comfortably in the Vidhan Sabha Election-2018.

Besides, on the polling day a voting assistant will also be provided to bring handicapped voters to polling centres from home and to take them back if required. The Chief Electoral Officer VL Kantha Rao has informed that 2 lakh handicapped voters have been registered on the Sugamya Portal till now.

There are approximately 3.50 lakh handicapped voters registered in the voters list in the state. The Sugamya Web Portal and Mobila App have been prepared in the state for the convenience of handicapped voters. The handicapped voters registered on the Sugamya App can ask for necessary assistance like vehicle, polling assistant, essential material on the day of polling.

Registration on this portal will facilitate them to cast votes at polling centres without standing in queue. The handicapped persons can choose any one member of their family or any other volunteer as driver. Besides this, such volunteers who wish to help handicapped persons in casting their votes can also get themselves registered on the portal. Registration of NCC/NSS/ Nehru Youth Centre/ Red Cross and other voluntary organizations can be done by the District Election Officers themselves. Persons or organisations wishing to provide assistance will not be connected to any political party and will not be engaged in any political activity.    

Such persons who want to participate in the public service can get their vehicles and themselves registered for providing transport facility to the handicapped persons. Moreover, such persons who want to provide material to the handicapped persons with an objective to assist them can get the material registered. Facility to drop handicapped till the main gate of the polling center will be given to the handicapped voters.

The above mentioned facility will be extended to the assistant and driver of the vehicle if they have their names in the voting list of the same polling centre. One assistant can render help to one handicapped person only but more than one handicapped persons can be taken by one vehicle to the polling centres. Such handicapped persons, who do not require vehicle and assistant and want to cast their votes on their own will be given facility to obtain pass only.
