The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) led task force on Monday recommended the entry of heavy vehicles in Delhi only between 6 am and 6 pm considering the poor dispersion of pollutants at night.
The members of the task force, along with Haryana Pollution Control Board, have recommended the entry of heavy vehicles and construction activities to take place only during daytime in view of poor dispersion, low temperatures and high humidity during night hours.
Apart from that, the Central Pollution Control Board led task force has also directed enforcement agencies to keep a "strict vigil and ensure firm actions against people" who take steps to pollute city’s air.
The ban on the entry of heavy vehicles was imposed from November 8 to 12 while the ban on construction activities and industries using coal and biomass was imposed from November 1 to November 12.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) air quality remained in the 'severe category' till Monday and the speculations of it improving to the 'very poor' category after Monday night were made. The air quality might remain in the same category for the next two days, said the India Meteorological Department.
Delhi-NCR's air quality has been deteriorating for the past three weeks, prompting authorities to implement a slew of measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to combat pollution. The GRAP imposes steps depending upon the level of pollution in the city. On Monday, the situation improved with pollution turning poor from severe.
