Members of the Vidhan Sabha stated that the level of politics has degenerated compared to the times when leaders like former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were active in politics. Expressing their views while paying homage to Vajpayee, they shared their experiences related to the departed leader.
Parliamentary Affairs minister Prakash Pant recalled his political and poetic talent. While recollecting her experiences, leader of opposition Indira Hridayesh said that Vajpayee was a statesman who behaved without bias against any party. Be it granting special package or approving change of the state’s name from Uttaranchal to Uttarakhand, he did what was right, she said. Education minister Arvind Pandey recalled that years ago when Vajpayee had come to address a gathering at Bazpur, he chose to dine with a poor family. “Our family was chosen for this but though we had chapatis there was no vegetable dish or daal to eat so he ate the chapatis with milk along with us,” said Pandey.
Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin praised Vajpayee for discharging his political duties while also maintaining his personal relations. “Once when he addressed a gathering in support of a candidate contesting against my father, who was on good terms with Vajpayee, he discharged his political duty without making any personal attack on my father. Later he sent a message and called my father for a cup of tea,” recalled Nizamuddin.
Ministers Satpal Maharaj, Yashpal Arya, MLAs Munna Singh Chauhan and others too expressed their views on the departed leader.
