Monday, 22 October 2018 | PNS | Chandigarh

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal on Sunday said that besides several other measures taken for the welfare of families of martyrs, the State Government has now decided to give jobs to their dependents in Group-B category by making changes in the policy.

“Under this, the wife of martyr Major Sanjeev Lathar would be given job in Group-B,” he said while addressing the people after unveiling the statue of Martyr Major Sanjeev Lathar in the Buda Khera Lathar village of Jind district.

Martyrs like Sanjeev Lathar are a source of inspiration for the youth, and to keep their memory alive, his statue has been unveiled, he said.

The Chief Minister said earlier, only Group C and Group D jobs were given to the dependents of martyrs but after making changes in the policy, Group B jobs have also been included in the bracket meant for the dependents of martyrs. Apart from this, a law college and another educational institution would be opened over 25 acres in village Buddha Khera in the memory of martyr Major Sanjeev Lathar, he announced.

Haryana accounts for only two per cent of the total population of the country and occupies 1.3 per cent of the total area but the state contributes 10 per cent to the strength of the Army which is a matter of pride for us all, Manohar Lal.

The Chief Minister also announced the decision to give Rs 1 crore for development works and Rs 1 crore for constructing streets, drains and other development works in the village of Budha Khera Lathar.

Taking note of the problem of waterlogging in many villages of the district, the Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure that rain water is drained out by October 31. With a view to facilitating sowing of the Rabi crops, the capacity of the Shamlon Kalan pump house for the evacuation of water would be increased to 240 cusecs from 120 cusecs, and that of Kerela Pump house from 70 cusecs to 100 cusecs, he said.

Manohar Lal also distributed cash prizes to students securing first and second place under the scholarship scheme initiated in the name of Martyr Major Sanjeev Lathar. Cash prizes were given to the students of class X and Class XII securing first two positions, Rs 10,000 for the first position, and Rs 5,000 for second.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister of Steel, Birender Singh, said Major Sanjeev Lathar was killed in a helicopter crash during duty in Siliguri, West Bengal, on November 30, 2016. A park has been developed in the memory of the martyr where his statue has been installed. It is managed by Shaheed Sanjeev Lathar Trust and the father of the martyr, Mahender Singh Lathar, is its president, he said.
