CM congratulates Lt Commander Pratibha Jamwal
Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has congratulated Lieutenant Commander Pratibha Jamwal for getting Tenzing Norgay National Adventure award for sailing across the world with woman crew of INSV Tarini. President of India will honour her with award in a ceremony to be organised in Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi on September 25. The Chief Minister said it was great achievement by Lieutenant Commander Jamwal as this award was the highest national recognition for outstanding achievements in the field of adventure. He said, Jamwal, who hails from Kullu district had brought laurels to the state and the country. He also extended his greetings to the family members for this outstanding accomplishment.
SBI Group announces ‘SBI Green Marathon’
Chandigarh: With the success of the inaugural edition of SBI Green Marathon, the commercial Bank has announced the launch of its second season. In its second edition, this mega event will be held in 15 cities across the country pledging for a greener future. The SBI Group is organizing a 5K, 10K, 21K run on February 10 in Chandigarh. The event is going to be a zero-waste event and is expected to witness close to 4300 participants who will run to spread awareness about the importance of cleaner and greener globe. Prashant Kumar, DMD & CFO, SBI said, “With SBI Green Marathon, the Bank has reaffirmed and endorsed its continued commitment towards greener environment & sustainable development.”
Hindi Pakhwada concluded
Chandigarh: The concluding and prize distribution ceremony of Hindi Pakhwada 2018 was held at the BSNL office, Sector 34 here.CGM Punjab SK GUPTA distributed prizes to all the deserving winners. The staff members of the BSNL were also present on the occasion.
IFS officers called on KBS Sidhu
Chandigarh: A group of Indian Foreign Service Officers, as part of their mid-career training program (MCTP) visited Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration and called on Special Chief Secretary-cum-Director General MGSIPA KBS Sidhu and Principal Secretary-cum-Director Raji P. Shrivastva. Sidhu said, it was a matter of pride that MGSIPA had been selected by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as one of the few institutes in the country to become a part of its network to train career diplomats. He said that the latest initiative of the MEA to reconnect the senior Foreign Service officers with the various states at the grassroots level would sharpen their ability to better serve the strategic interest of India abroad, apart from being sensitive to the Indian diaspora hailing from these parts of the country.
DGP awards 3 Police officials
Chandigarh: UT Director General of Police, Sanjay Baniwal awarded commendation certificate along with cash components to the police officers of Chandigarh for their remarkable performance in nabbing the robbers. They were given commendation certificates along with cash reward of Rs 5000/- each on Wednesday. ASI Satparkash, Const Balwinder and Insp Narinder Patial have nabbed the accused robbers Shekhar and Karan.
Tumour weighing 3.5 kg removed
Chandigarh: A team of PGIMER doctors, lead by Prof. JaimantiBakshi, Professor and unit Head, Department of ENT, removed a tumor weighing 3.5 kg from the oral cavity of a patient. These types of cases are extremely rare and require an advanced set up and technical skill to operate. The patient, a 45 years old male is a resident of Punjab. The surgery lasted 8 hours and was done jointly by the departments of ENT and plastic surgery. A PGIMER spokesperson said, Patient’s right lower half of jaw had to be removed as it was involved by the tumour along with 8cm x 6cms of the involved skin. There was a huge defect on the face after tumor removal which was closed primarily by the plastic surgeon. The patient is stable after surgery and is recovering satisfactorily.
