JMM calls Mayurbhanj Bandh today
Baripada: Mayurbhanj district would observe a 12-hour bandh from 6 am to 6 pm on Saturday in response to a call given by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in support of the district's three popular demands, setting up of a Bench of the High Court at Baripada, refund of money of the BPD Urban Bank depositors and development of railways in the district. This was stated by JMM leader Kalinga Keshari Jena here on Friday. Essential services would be exempted from the purview of the bandh, he said.
one dies, another hurt in auto-tanker collision
Rayagada: A 50-year-old woman was killed on the spot and her nephew, who was driving an auto-rickshaw sustained critical injuries after the vehicle had a head-on collision with a tanker near Komtalpetaile in Jaykaypur of Rayagada district on Friday morning. The deceased was identified as P Arnapurna of Jinjalbadi village under the Chandili police limits in the district. Sources said Raja was driving Arnapurna to the Rayagada railway station. On the way, a tanker coming from opposite direction hit the auto-rickshaw. Injured P Raju was admitted to the Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital.
‘Kabi Pain Dinatiye’ held in Khordha
Khordha: The Ananta Charan Kabi Kunja Smruti Sansad organised a programme ‘Kabi Pain Dinatiye’ here on Thursday. Chief guest Sarat Kumar Parida said at least one day in a year should be dedicated for artists, litterateurs and devotional singers. On the occasion, eminent poets, journalists and social activists were felicitated in the presence of many poets and intellectuals. Among others, Sansad president Umasankar Prasad, secretary Jugal Kishore Dash, Dhaneswar Bidhar, Shiv Narayan Mishra, Manoj Das and Purna Chandra Behera were present.
Sampark Trust holds blood donation camp
Khordha: The Sampark Charitable Trust in association with the Hitech Computer Centre and the Ama Odisha organised a blood donation camp here, in which 25 units of blood were collected. Panchagarh Mahotsav Committee secretary Sunanda Pradhan inaugurated the camp by himself donating blood. Paramananda College, Bolagarh Reader Rabindranath Panigrahi, trust president Bijay Kumar Tarania, among oters, encouraged the donors. Begunia Ayush doctor Madhusudan Subudhi, Khordha Blood Bank technician Arun Kumar Sahoo, with others’ help, collected blood.
B’pur Fire Services holds friendly cricket match
Brahmapur: The Brahmapur Fire Services organised a friendly cricket match between the department and mediapersons here on Friday. The Media-XI team under the captainship of Shaktidhar Rajguru managed to score 28 runs. While the Fire-XI team chased down the target losing only one wicket under the captainship of Santanu Mohapatra. Local MLA Dr Ramesh Chandra Chaupatnaik, BDA Chairman Subash Moharana attended as guests and felicitated the teams.
