Piyush Goyal to visit MCL mines today

Sambalpur: Union Minister of Coal and Railways Piyush Goyal would visit the mines of the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) on Monday. Goyal, who would be on a day-long visit, would inspect the mines in both the Talcher Coalfields and Ib Valley Coalfields and review the performance of the MCL. He would also inaugurate a CSR project for Divyangs in the State.

Lok Adalat held in Brahmapur

Brahmapur: The 5th district-level Lok Adalat of 2018 was held at the various courts in the district on Saturday. Under the supervision of former District Judge and District Legal Services Authority Chairman Eshan Kumar Dash, a total of 12 civil and criminal cases were disposed of. Family Court’s Lalit Kumar Das, PLA (PUS) Chairman EV Rao, Senior Civil Judge Pragya Paramita Rout, Additional Civil Judge (SD) Bidyadhar Prusty and Alok Mayee Pradhan heard the cases.

Girl meets watery grave in Bhadrak river

Bhadrak: A girl drowned in the Kundi river in Bhadrak district on Sunday morning. She was identified as Sasmita (16), daughter of Bijay Jena of Radhanga village under Tihidi block. Sasmita had gone to the river for performing some puja on its shore. As she did not return for a long time, the family members searched for her and ultimately found her body floating in the river.

Two UD cases reported in JSpur

Jagatsinghpur: Two unnatural death (UD) cases were reported from  different locations of Raghunathpur block on Saturday. Police registered the cases after conducting postmortem in the District Headquarters Hospital here. Saroj Sahoo, a resident of Redhua, drowned while bathing in a village pond. In the other incident, a teenage boy, Akash Mishra, died due to snakebite on road in Tarapur when he was returning home from school.

Fire at Punjab and Sind bank branch in Paradip

Jagatsinghpur: A fire broke out in the Punjab and Sind bank branch at Paradipgarh on Saturday. As smoke billowed from the building, locals informed fire personnel about the incident. Fire tenders from Paradip and Kujang were pressed into service and the blaze was doused. Some electronic articles were destroyed by the fire. The bank was closed for holiday. The details of damage would be known after the bank reopens on Monday.

Vyasa Print Media Assn executive meet held 

Jajpur Road: A working committee meeting of the Vyasa Print Media Association was held here under the chairmanship of its president Haradhan Banarjee on Friday. Secretary Chintamani Padhi informed about the future plans of the association. Advisors Baburam Jena, Harsha Bardhan Behera, Sarat Pathal and Abhimanyu Mishra, other office-bearers like VP Umakant Rout, Bijay Kumar Sahoo, Bharat Rout, Pradyumna Boitai, Jagdish Matania, Dushmanta Kumar Rout, Nityananda Mahalik, Pabitra Mohanty, Biswaranjan Pattanayak, Kailash Rout, Debendra Nayak gave various suggestions to strengthen the association.

McDowell’s No 1 hosts No. 1 Yaari Jam with KK

Bhubaneswar: The McDowell’s No 1 Soda in association with the RED LIVE brought the singing sensation KK, who performed for the No 1 Yaari Jam concert in a two-city tour that began on October 12 with Rourkela and ended with a bang on October 13 in Bhubaneswar. The No1 Yaari Jam was built on the theme of “Jab Boli Mile, Yaari Badhe”. KK said music is one of the few things that can touch hearts across the world, often bridging geographic and language barriers and singing songs in Odia was fun.
