INC lodges complaint on violation of MCC

Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee lodged the complaint with Chief Electoral Officer seeking assessment of advertisement published on October 15, birthday of Chief Minister, as part of violation of election model code of conduct. The party pointed out that before releasing advertisement prior permission was not taken from Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC). Party sought immediate action on it.

Submitting the complaint, former Raipur Mayor and Media Committee member Kiranmayee Nayak stated that as per norms prior permission of MCMC has to be taken before publication of advertisements. On October 15, photograph of Chief Minister along with BJP Member of Parliament, and photographs of ministers and party symbol, full page advertisements were released in all prominent Hindi newspapers, which were two to four pages. One of the newspapers carried four page special editions, which falls under paid news. The estimated total cost of advertisements is Rs  1.53 crores.

Kiranmayee said that as per model code of conduct, after October 6, if any proposed candidate or his supporters released any advertisement, which is before filing of nomination, after filing, the expenses would be added to the election expenses. Similarly, in social media like Facebook, YouTube, instagram, WhatsApp also such advertisements were released.

Congress leader urged that after MCMC verification, all the expenses be added to the election expenses of Raman Singh. It has been released by different cabinet ministers and all have knowledge of election rules. In case, if they are also in election fray, these expenses be added to their election account and commence Income Tax probe. As with notification for polling in first phase, the assembly constituency of Chief Minister would also go for poll.
