Monday, 24 September 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said on Sunday that the Indian economy was surging ahead and had become the fastest growing economy of the world following the bold reforms introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said it was the positive results of the economic reforms that the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country was growing at an annual growth rate of 8.2 per cent.

Addressing the All-India Central Excises Officers’ Association here on Sunday, Sharma  said that the Goods and Services Tax had come as a boon for the Indian economy as it not only eradicated the complicated tax regime but also widened the tax net and significantly improved the tax collections.

Sharma asked the Central excise officers to come forward with their suggestions for simplification of the GST structure so as to help small businesses and traders.

The two-day meeting of the officers of the Central excise department concluded here on Sunday.
