The Vigilance police on Tuesday arrested Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) of Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) Usharani Das for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
According to reports, complainant Debanand Barik, an employee of DHH had approached the ADMO to clear the pending bills; however the latter demanded Rs 5,000 as bribe. Das threatened not to release the bill when he expressed his inability to pay the amount.
With no option, Barik lodged a complaint with the Vigilance. Jharsuguda and Rourkela DSPs Dilip Kumar Kar and Dashrathi Sethi respectively laid a trap and the accused was caught red-handed with the bribe money.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and further investigation was underway, said DSP Kar. Simultaneously, raids were also conducted on the ADMO’s residence and office, he further said.
