Jats announces ‘Deenbandhu Sandhesh Yatra’ , campaign against BJP in Rajasthan, MP

Tuesday, 16 October 2018 | PNS | Chandigarh

Agitated over non-fulfillment of their demands, the Jats have announced to undertake ‘Deenbandhu Sandhesh Yatra’ named after venerated Jat farmer leader Deenbandhu Sir Chhotu Ram, against the BJP led Haryana Government in the state.

The Jat community has also announced to campaign against the BJP in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, which goes to assembly polls in next two months.

All India Jat Aarkashan Sanghrash Samiti (AIJASS) during its state executive meeting in Rohtak on Monday decided that ‘Deenbandhu Sandhesh Yatra’ will be undertaken in Haryana to apprize people about the unfulfilled promises made to the Jat community by the BJP. The yatra will be undertaken in all villages and cities of Haryana.

AIJASS president Yashpal Malik said that we have decided to campaign against the BJP in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. For this, teams will be constituted and a strategy will be chalked out by the Samiti, he said.

Teams to campaign against the BJP will be sent to all districts of Rajasthan, he added. On November 25, Jat Mahasammelan will be organized at Rohtak to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir Chhotu Ram, who is a revered figure in Haryana’s Jat community and also known as a champion of farmers’ right during the British colonial era.

People from across the country will participate in the Jat Mahasammelan, Malik said. He said, as procurement season is underway and assembly elections will be held in several states, we have decided to chalk out strategy to press for our demands at the Jat Mahasammelan. We will announce to intensify our protest on November 25, he added.

The Jat outfit had earlier announced to hold protest dharnas at the events of Chief Minister Manohar Lal and Finance Minister Capt. Abhimanyu. The protest dharnas were being held in rural areas in Rohtak, Jhajjar, Dadri, Bhiwani, Hisar, Kaithal, Jind, Panipat and Sonipat.

The community has been demanding reservation in government jobs and educational institutions, general amnesty for those booked during the February 2016 Jat quota violence, reconsideration of criminal cases lodged against Jat agitators since 2010.

Malik alleged that the BJP Government had promised to withdraw the cases registered against the youth during quota agitation but the ruling party has retracted from its promise and betraying the Jat community.

AIJASS leaders had earlier expressed strong displeasure over Haryana Government’s stand on not withdrawing cases against members of the Jat community languishing in jails related to the February 2016 violence.

The 2016 quota agitation had left 31 people dead, wounded more than 200, destroyed property worth hundreds of crores of rupees bringing Haryana and adjoining areas to a halt for more than 10 days.

Notably, aiming to mend fences with the influential Jat community in Haryana ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Prime Minister had last week unveiled the statue of Chhotu Ram in Jat heartland of Rohtak and addressed ‘Deenbandhu Samriti Rally’ where he had gone all out showering praises on Chhotu Ram, the tallest Jat-farmer leader of the pre-Independence era.

However, the Jat leaders had criticized the BJP Ministers and leaders for maintaining silence on the issues of reservation and 2016 Jat quota agitation during the ‘Deenbandhu Samriti Rally’.
