Jharkhand continues to reel under intense cold

Sunday, 30 December 2018 | PNS | Ranchi

Cold wave, cloudy weather conditions continue to disrupt normal life across Jharkhand. According to the weathermen, the existing weather conditions would prevail for next three-day here as the impact of cool northwesterly winds will continue to blow over the State registering acute dip in mercury level in the days to come.

With cold wave unabated in Jharkhand and minimum temperature dropping by three to seven degree Celsius below the normal temperature across the region, Ranchi for quite some time now has been shivering at minimum six to eight degree Celsius while its suburb area -- Kanke too is reeling under severe cold conditions. The meteorological Centre – Ranchi has predicted that the minimum temperature is likely to remain constant or could drop further due to the impact of north-westerly wind coming from Himalayan ranges.

“The situation is expected to remain like this for a while as there is no synoptic system or circulation formulation for another few days. Plunging mercury will influence the life of the residents across the State. The major weather activity which includes change in wind pattern is also not in the sight which indicates that the condition is likely to remain the same for a few more days,” said Senior Scientist, MET Observatory Centre – Ranchi, R S Sharma.

According to the weather bulletin released by the MET Observatory Centre – Ranchi on Saturday, the Capital City is expected to register temperature between six to eight degree Celsius in the coming days while central and western parts of the State which include districts like Bokaro, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Ramgarh, Palamau, Garhwa, Chatra, Koderma, Latehar and Lohardaga will also experience bone-chilling cold for the next few days,” Sharma further added.

As per the weathermen, the temperature level across the State is expected to remain in the range of five to eight degree Celsius. Notably, the residents of the State Capital including other districts have been experiencing extreme cold conditions with minimum temperature dropping by five degree Celsius below normal range since mid December.

Further, in accordance to the weather bulletin of the MET Observatory Centre -- Ranchi, the cold wave conditions will continue to persist in the State along with a foggy weather during the next few days. “There is a feeble chance of improvement in the minimum and maximum temperature level across the State. Along with the cold wave conditions, the foggy weather will prevail for the next few days –till January 2,” added Sharma.

On Saturday, Ranchi recorded maximum 21.4 degree Celsius and minimum 4.8 degree Celsius while Kanke’s (Automated Weather Station) registered maximum 19.2 degree Celsius and minimum 3.8 degree Celsius. Jamshedpur recorded maximum 23.0 degree Celsius and minimum 7.8 degree Celsius. Similarly, Daltonganj registered 22.8 degree Celsius and minimum 4.6 degree Celsius.
