Katiyar advocates legislation on construction of Ram temple

Monday, 19 November 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

Advocating a legislation to solve the Ram Mandir issue, Bharatiya Janata Party's senior leader Vinay Katiyar said if the government brings a law in this regard, it would expose political parties and leaders who talk about Hindutava but did nothing for it.

"The Narendra Modi government should bring a legislation on construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya because it will show who are in favour of Ram temple and who are against it," Katiyar said in Ayodhya on Sunday.

He said that if it happened it would not be the first time when the legislation route would be taken to construct temple. "There is the precedence, that Somnath temple was constructed after the Indian Parliament passed a law. This was made possible by then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel," he added.

Katiyar said the same procedure could be replicated by the Modi government for construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya.

He said. "Moreover, it will expose leaders who call themselves Hindus and flaunt their janaeu or call themselves Shiva bhakts. This legislation will expose whether they are with the Hindu samaj or with others."

Katiyar said that if the legislation failed to get Parliament's nod, the government should not consider it as a failure because the people would know who was with dharma because only development with dharma had a meaning.

"Some people argue that instead of mandir the BJP should focus on development. They are partially right. The government should carry forward its agenda of development and also build Ram temple because it is the demand of the people," he said.

Without taking the name of Congress, Katiyar said there were some political parties which sponsored advocates who had delayed the hearing of the Ayodhya case in the Supreme Court. "They have achieved some success as the SC has deferred the hearing to January next year.

Katiyar made it clear that delaying the hearing on the Ayodhya case meant that there would be no verdict before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and this was unfortunate.

"This will only increase resentment among the people and their aspiration for a grand Ram temple will be delayed," the BJP leader said.
