KGBV warden found hanging

Thursday, 20 September 2018 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Warden of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Awasiya Vidyalaya Bharti Kumari (52) under Pipra police station was found dead, hanging in her room in the school complex on Wednesday. SP, Palamu, Indrajeet Mahatha said her son Kislay Singh has given in writing that his mother was led  to commit suicide by the immediate past warden of this school. The SP declined to reveal the name of this immediate past warden, who is a teacher of this KGBAV Pipra, but said police have registered a case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of IPC against this immediate past warden.

SP further said there would be no coercive action against this accused like arresting etc. Police will investigate the case and then if any trace or evidence of abetment of suicide comes then only law will take its suitable course against the accused here in this case.

Bharti Kumari had taken over charge of warden of this school only this August 29. The SP said her son is now alleging that his mother was most upset with this new task and responsibility. Her son also told Pipra police that immediate previous warden used to mock at her, made fun of her and that disturbed his mother like anything. SP said the son is pursuing a theory that his mother ended her life as she was seen as cast away, not fit enough to act and function as warden etc.

Bharti Kumari was in this school since 2012 and on August 29 she became the warden of this school.

A source in the district education office here said it is a very routine affair to become a warden in KGBAV which is a 2 year tenure post and is done on a rotational basis. This source doubts this cannot be the cause of such a drastic end of life.

The source further said if this new warden had any severe problem then she ought to have submitted her application for her stepping down from this post of warden but she did not file any such request application for her stepping down as warden here.

SP Palamu too said police have so far not found any evidence of her filing any request application with her concerned department the education office in Daltonganj to relieve her of this new assignment of warden here.

The warden wrote Kumari but she was a married woman with children said SDPO Chhaterpur Shambhu Kumar Singh.

According to the SDPO the deceased before this suicide had texted her son and husband around 1 am on Wednesday night in which she wrote she would die. Police have taken these texts as her suicidal note. After texting the message (read now suicidal note) she switched off her cell phone and kept it in her trunk which too was locked and police had to break open it to retrieve it as her cell phone text and calls are the only material evidences in this case.

According to SDPO the deceased was a bit depressed too. She was also fond of doing lots of worship and rituals.  She had in her text also written about a lingering land dispute which too was eating into her. She had also advised her son not to blame anyone which the SDPO too said quoting some portion of her text that she sent through her cell phone but her son now hammers that his mother was ill treated at this school by one from whom she took charge of warden (on her becoming a warden and that led her to end her life  .
