KIIT to host 39th World Congress of Poets

Sunday, 14 October 2018 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The 39th World Congress of Poets (WCP) would be organised at the KIIT here in October 2019. It was declared by The World Academy of Arts and Culture (WAAC) in the presence of Dr Maurus Young, President; Prof Ernesto Kahan, Vice-President and Dr Maria Eugenia Soberanis, General Secretary of WAAC in the 38th World Congress of Poets hosted in Suiyang County of China's Guizhou Province from October 10 to 16.

The WAAC and the KIIT would jointly organise the 39th WCP, in which over 1,000 poets and writers including Noble Laureates, from 75 countries and 2,000 delegates from India would participate.

During the 38th WCP, the WAAC declared to honour KIIT & KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta with its highest award "Golden Gabel" and confer Honorary DLitt on him. The award would be given to Dr Samanta later in India as he was unable to attend the congress due to his ill health. The Mayor of Suiyang County handed over the Flag and Flame of WCP to KIIT senior advisor RK Das.

The main motto of WAAC is to promote ‘World Brotherhood and World Peace through Art and Culture’. Dr Young, Prof Kahan and Dr Maria had discussed with Dr Samanta about organising the 39th WCP and the golden jubilee celebration of WAAC in India. Dr Samanta has given his consent to hold the 39th WCP at the KIIT.

Dr Samanta said, “It is a matter of pride that in India, KIIT is hosting the 39th WCP.” It would definitely promote the art, culture, heritage, literature, tradition and tourism of Odisha in the international level. Though Odisha has glorious history of art, culture, heritage, literature, tradition and tourism, it needs more promotion worldwide, he added.
