Police on Wednesday rescued a young girl, who was kept captive in a room in the Konark Market Complex, just two km from the Sun Temple.
The girl was allegedly gangraped by more than 12 persons for around 10 days inside the room in the market complex. The girl, a resident of Kolkata, had been brought to Odisha by a woman on the pretext of providing her a job but later forced her into prostitution, sources said.
The matter came to light when the girl was spotted by locals screaming for help on the roof of the house. Following this, the locals immediately informed the police.
Police, along with the help of fire brigade personnel broke open the door of the room and rescued the girl and rushed her to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Gop near Konark. Later, she was medically examined.
Meanwhile, the house owner and the woman who brought the girl to Konark are absconding. Police are investigating into the incident and questioning the locals for more information.
